The chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that he would not compromise on Mhadei river issue. And not allow even a drop of water to be diverted. He also counselled patience and said that a solution would be arrived at soon, reminding the media that the Union minister Prakash Javdekar was expected in the state in a couple of days.

Prakash Javdekar had assured the Goan delegation that the consent letter of Environmental Clearance granted to Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project would be revoked within 10 days.

As the deadline of 10 days is now over, the protesters have decided to intensify their agitation during IFFI which is set to begin on Wednesday. Javdekar is supposed to be in Goa for the inaugural.

Karnantaka cannot divert Mhadei river as the environment laws of State and Centre government are strict, WRD Minister Fillip Nerry Rodrigues said on Monday.

But he said that he was hopeful that the Union Minister for Environment Prakash Javdekar would solve the Mhadei row before IFFI, as he is well aware the issue would intensify during the festival.

The Mhadei Bachao Andolan had a widely attended meeting at Panaji. It was attended by activists like Rajendra Kerkar, Arvind Bhatikar and politicians like Elvis Gomes among others.
