Traditional Ganapati idol makers claims shortage of clay

Chovoth is round the corner and awareness is being created among public to refrain the use of Plastic of Paris idols and opt for clay idols. However, the traditional Ganapati idol makers are facing shortage of clay to prepare these idols. A idol maker from Bicholim highlights the reason behind the clay shortage and also urges the government to fasten the process of subsidy to idol makers.



 Ganesh Chaturhti or Chovoth is biggest festival in Goa. Every Hindu household worship Ganapatu idol in their homes. The arrangements are for festivals are made week prior and people book their idol in one month advance. The artists have already started preparing Ganapati idols but shortage of clay is their big concern. The lack of clay idols promotes POP idols in Goa. And mostly they are sold under the pretext of Shadu mati. The POP idols do not get dissolve in water creating harm to marine life. So mostly Goans go for clay idols.
