BJP backed panels set to form councils in 3 of the 5 civic bodies

BJP backed panels are all set to form councils in 3 of the 5 Municipalities after counting ended on Monday. Goa Forward and Congress leaders Digambar Kamat and Reginaldo Lourenco backed panels have got a clear mandate in Margao municipality while Sudhir Kandolkar backed panel claims to have won in Mapusa.

A total of 1,85,225 voters - 93,706 females and 91,519 males – were eligible to cast their votes for the 5 municipalities for a total of  402 candidates contesting elections from the 93 wards.  Maximum number of candidates - 125  - are fighting elections for the 25 wards of  Mormugao Municipality. Maximum number - 11 candidates - are contesting from Ward 12 of the Mormugao municipality. Meanwhile, 5 candidates will be contesting for the Karapur-Sarvan Panchayat elections while it will be a straight fight for the Velim panchayat seat with just 2 candidates in fray.
