Better if people do development work themselves, contractors value for money bad : CM

Contractors work does not show value for money. If 10 lakhs rupees work is awarded to a contractor, only 5 lakhs worth work is seen, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday in a roundabout way indirectly admitting to corruption or bad value from various departments that carry out various works. He said that the government has now decided to get the people themselves to do development work.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was speaking after the work of cleaning and disilting of Tillari Irrigation Project Canal of 120 km length under MGNREGA scheme. The Chief Minister said tha tit was better to engage the services of various local bodies such as self help groups and social clubs to carry out the developmental works in their areas through this scheme. As this would not on;y get th ework done. But people from the locality would also earn as they worked.
