Neither man nor animal is important, what is important is tree. If there are enough trees of different species, there can be never man-animal conflict. This is told by Dr CEO of Baba Amte’s Anandvan, Dr Sheetal Amte-Karajgi, who is living in the forest along with animals. Especially in the background of tiger killing that shook the whole state of Goa.

Baba Amte had set up Anandvan in the deep forests of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, primarily to rehabilitate people suffering with leprosy.

His son Dr Prakash Amte later set up Lok Biradari project in the forest of Hemalkasa in Gadchiroli district, where they live with all kind of wild animals. Today both these places have become pilgrimage centers for the environmentalists, nature lover, friends of animals and social activists.

Dr Sheetal Amte-Karajgi is a third generation and daughter of Vikas Amte. She looks after Anandvan.

Recently she was in Goa when she was interviewed by Naman Sawant Dhavaskar at the Museum of Goa, run by Goa’s ace artist Dr Subodh Kerkar. Watch what she said when asked about the recent incident of tiger killing in Goa.

And watch what she said when asked about the responsibility of the government in this regard.
