Workers protest retrenchment, hold dharna

Mining workers employed with VM Salgaonkar and deployed at Vagus loading plant in Valpoi held a dharna outside their Vasco Head Office to protest against retrenchment of around 150 workers.

They have demanded that State goverment should make provision to consider mining as a secured Job as per retirement system.

They also demanded that company give good salary scale and withdraw retrenchment order issued to workers.

The mining workers in Goa are facing retrenchment after the mining ban came into force. Citing this reason V M Salgaonkar has issued retrenchment notices to workers.

Company told them there are no possibilities in resumption of mining operations due the various existing statutes, court orders and prevailing circumstances.
