SC to hear 20-year-old mining concessions case on April 15: CM

The case will be hear by bench of 9 judges. Here's more.

A mining company had challenged Abolition and Declaration of Mining Leases Act 1987 which abolished mining concessions given under the Portuguese rule.

Under the Portuguese Colonial Mining Law, companies were granted concessions which were converted into leases under this act.

The Act was implemented in 1989 but with retrospective effect backdated to 1987. As a result mining leases expired in 2017.

Mining workers from Sattari met Sawant at Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhali and requested him not to allow the Advocate General to in Supreme Court.

CM told them he has already started studying this issue in depth and met concern people during his visit to Delhi in a bid to solve the mining issue.
