Auction is not the solution for to a quick start to mining in the state. Neither is amending the MMDR Act or the ordinance route. This will only result in more litigation.

The government has to bring out a mining policy, after involving both mining affected and dependents. And restart mining with their help either by starting a corporation or a cooperative society.

This is what Ravindra Velip,  executive member of Mines, Minerals, and People, an all India organization said on his return from meeting parliamentarians including Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar.

Velip was part of a 13 member delegation that met parliamentarians and submitted a memorandum on various issues involving mining all over India the main being illegal mining.

On the Goa angle, the MPs were briefed how he Goa assembly had resolved unanimously where mining concession and MMDR act be amended so as to give the leases back to the same companies that were running them all these years.

Velip spoke on the promises given by the BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral on solving the mining issue in the state in 3 months.

The state assembly had taken a unanimous resolution asking the Centre to amend the Goa concessions and the MMDR act.

Velip said that they had explained to the MPs how there are two Supreme Court decisions on how to re start mining and how the Goa government wanted the centre top bypass the sc judgment because of the certain companies.

Velip also spoke on the mining dependents agitation.
