Workers and Chowgule management have clashed at Costi mines.

On Monday, workers didn't allow Chowgule officials to enter the gate.

Sensing trouble, Sanguem deputy collector immediatley convened a meeting. The second meeting will be held again on Tuesday.

Chowgule Mining Company had sacked 54 workers on 16th May citing that their lease has expired.

But workers allege that the management has employed 60 new workers from Assam and Orrisa on contract basis.

Trade union leaders Puti Gaonkar and Jitendra Naik have demanded that sacked workers should be deployed as security guards at the site.

Deputy collector Ajay Gaude visited the site and has now scheduled a joint meeting of the management and workers on Tuesday
