Dekhta Hoon. I will see what I can do. This the only assurance Goa got from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after waiting for 11 months to meet him.

In spite of BJP leaders claiming that they have found a new solution to resolve the mining crisis, he has not given any firm assurance. The delegation had gone to Delhi with a great hope. It included all the three BJP MPs, Speaker Pramod Sawant, ministers Vishwajeet Rane and Nilesh Cabral as well as Deepak Pavaskar of the MGP, besides three leaders of Goa Peoples’ Mining Front. But According to GMPF Convenor Puti Gaonkar, Modi started on a negative note, saying he won’t interfere with Supreme Court decision. Listen what he told Goa365 on phone. Goa365 tried to get in touch with BJP MPs to find out about the new solution they were talking about. Also MGP MLA Deepak Pavaskar who had said they would demand a compensatory package of 3500 crore rupees from the centre. But Puti says no such issue was raised. MP Narendra Sawaikar also told Goa 365 that the Prime Minister had promised a solution within the framework of the law and confirmed Puti on the compensation issue.Goa Forward Minister Vijai Sardesai says what PM has said is a welcome sign. But no solution could be reached in one meeting. He also predicts BJP’s chances would get affected in Lok Sabha election if no solution is found.

The Supreme Court had quashed 88 mining leases renewed by the BJP government in Goa in 2015 with retrospective effect. Since then, mining dependents are being assured to restart mining immediately.
