It is shocking. Mineral Foundation has collected almost 187 crore rupees in last four years to help the mining-affected areas. Total 12 projects of public utility have been identified. But only one crore has been spent till date. That too only on drinking water. Which is hardly half a per cent of the total funds.

Watch this website of Directorate of Mines of Goa government. This is a section on District Mineral Foundations.

Watch what’s written in this right side corner. The total collection from 1st April 2015 to 31st March 2019. Total amount is approximately 187 crore rupees. 96 crores from the North and 91 crore from the South. The district foundations had to spend this entire fund to help the mining affected areas.

Watch these 12 areas. And the amount spent on projects. Afforestation – zero. Education - zero. Environment - zero. Health Care - zero. Housing - zero. Infrastructure - zero. Irrigation - zero. Sanitation - zero. Skill Development - zero. Sports - zero.

The only amount spent till date is on drinking water. That too after Goa Foundation had approached the high court because of water scarcity in Sonshi and other areas. The Mineral Foundations have spent total 1 crore to supply water. 63 lakhs in the North and 44 lakhs in the South.

This has been brought to light by Dr Claude Alvares, Director of Goa Foundation. On one hand, mining areas are struggling to live hand to mouth because mining activity has literally stopped since 2012. And no sign of restarting it, in spite of repeated assurances. And on the other hand, the same government is sitting over 186 crores without spending on the basic necessities of mining-affected people.
