Govt hits out at Opposition & Mining Cos over retrenchment

17 Apr 2018 07:04 PM

All three partners of the coalition government have appealed to all the mining companies to wait for two more months and not to retrench the workers.

They hope some solution either through a review petition or some other way.

The Goa government wants same mining leases to continue till 2020.

Sesa and Fomento have told its workers not to come to work but salaries would be paid.

But Chowgule has served retrenchment notices.

This has created unrest in the mining belt. On this background, MGP minister Sudin Dhavalikar made this appeal to the mining companies.

Goa Forward minister Vijai Sardesai however came down heavily on Chowgule company for retrenching the staff and even questioned company’s social responsibility.

On the other hand, BJP spokesperson and MLA Nilesh Cabral hit out at opposition leader Babu Kavalekar and questioned his integrity to the cause of mining crisis.

Babu had complained to the Governor that Goa government is doing nothing to resolve the mining crisis.
