It includes Goa People’s Mining Front, trade union leaders, barge owners and of course the environmentalists who always demanded mining corporation. But they as well as trade union leaders have some conditions.
Perhaps everybody has realised that old leases cannot be continued by amending the MMDR Act. While talking to Goa365 in a Straightforward interview, union Ayush Minister and North Goa MP Shripad Naik had supported a mining corporation run by Goa government rather than auctioning the mines. We contacted some key players.
All are supporting the mining corporation. But the trade unions want to resume their salaries immediately. Watch these reactions.
Goa’s mines shut down due to rampant illegalities against which Goa Foundation Dr Claude Alvares went up to the Supreme Court. He always demanded a government-run mining corporation.
He doesn’t mind giving ore extracting contracts to the old lease holders. His only request is that at least now don’t break any law. But another environmentalist Ramesh Gawas says the government has no other option.
Because most of the illegal mining leases are owned by the people who are in power. Watch what they say.
