The Delhi High has directed the CBI to probe loss of 20,000 crore rupees due to 2nd mining lease renewals and submit a report within 3 months.

The order was given on 3rd April 2018. The Apex court had earlier scrapped the renewals, but not specified any criminal action.

Union Minister Prakash Javdekar, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, former chief minister Laximikant Parsekar and bureaucrats including Mines Director Prasanna Acharya are some of the names on the list sought to be probed.

On 10 September 2012, the state government passed an order stopping mining. The Centre immediately suspended environmental clearances.

However, later on, the government renewed 89 leases and the Centre revoked the suspensions of those Environmental clearances.

The petitioners and an NGO had approached the Supreme Court which set aside the renewals.

However, the petitioners said that the Apex court did not specify any criminal action. This forced them to approach the Delhi High court.

Tamankar said that they would be writing to the CBI seeking the arrest of those responsible for the revenue loss to the exchequer.
