BJP MPs and Goa’s BJP ministers are however still hopeful that the bill would be placed in the December session of Parliament.

But opposition parties, mining dependents as well as social activists allege that BJP has cheated them on mining issue.

Whole Goa was shaken up on Thursday with the news appearing in the web edition of Financial Express that Centre has rejected the proposal to issue ordinance and restart mining immediately.

The news said that centre was not considering the option of ordinance because mining is a state subject and centre will not interfere into the affairs of Goa state.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had written official letter to centre on 24^th September to amend the MMDR Act and change the period of 50 years lease from 1897, instead of 1961.

The first option was to immediately pass an ordinance to amend the act since Parliament was not in session.

But this proposal has now been rejected. But BJP MPs Narendra Savoikar and Vinay Tendulkar claim that they are still hopeful of presenting a bill in the Parliament.

And power minister Nilesh Cabral says it would happen in December session.

But opposition Congress party, the truck owners as well as social activists fighting illegal mining have in one voice said that BJP has cheated the people.
