Villagers challenge MRF expansion proposals at Dhatwada

The Bombay High Court on 16 of May issued notice on a PIL filed by the Dhatwada Usgaon Citizens Forum and the Goa Foundation challenging the expansion proposals of the MRF factory at Dhatwada.

They have challenged the decision of the Investment Promotion Board and the panchayat of Usgaon Gangem saying that these are contrary to three resolutions passed by the Gram Sabha opposing any expansion of the factory.

The High Court has fixed the matter for hearing on stay on 23rd May.

Petitioners have complained that the MRF has been allowed to extract mineral ore found on the property without a valid lease and objected to the grant of thousands of litres of water for the expansion when there is already a shortage of water to existing users. 

The petitioners wanted a stop on the construction of any development work and construction of an additional factory at the site.
