No streetlights in Verna industrial estate, workers in dark

Verna industrial estate is one of the most prominent industrial areas in the state.

But the lack of street lights has turned this place into a literal ghost town at night.

It is not only scary but also unsafe.

Despite the lack of even basic infrastructure like water and electricity, the Goa Industrial Development Corporation is still sticking to its decision to increase the lease rent, a decision now opposed by the Small industries association too.

The decision to increase the rent was first opposed by the Verna industries association last week.

They had also highlighted the lack of infrastructure in their media interaction after the meeting of their members last week.

At Verna after duty hours, thousands of workers many of them women working in this industrial area have to walk in the darkness due to the failure of the GIDC to maintain the streetlights.

Several other people whom Goa365 met and raised these concerns.

Special Joint Executive and Advisory Committee Meeting were held on Wednesday.

It was unanimously resolved to oppose the recent revision in lease rent by Goa-IDC at 8 rupees per sq. mt for plots up to 2000 m2.

16 rupees per sq. mt for plots with the area between 2001 m2 to 5000 m2.

24 rupees for plots with the area between 5001 m2 to 10000 m2 and 32 rupees for plots above 10000 m2.
