Murmugao council pulled up for waiving 16 lakh school construction fees

Mormugao Municipal Council has faced sharp criticism after a fee of around 16 lakh rupees was waived off by the council.

The criticism was that the MMC Chief officer had no rights to decide on public money.

Local Chandrashekar Vasta said that MMC was struggling with finances and had not paid salaries.

Vasta demanded that the reason be known why MMC had favoured a particular school and also alleged that the school had begun operations without occupancy.

Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes told Goa 365 that the council had waived off Construction charges to the school as per the resolution passed in 2014.

He said that after the resolution was taken, the proposal was put up to the DMA who had written back asking the council to decide.

And accordingly, a waiver was given.
