GSUDA fences off Aquem Baixo paddy fields; farmers protest

Government encourages citizens to take up farming but look what a government agency is discouraging farmers. Farmers from Aquem-Baixo village on Friday protested against the installation of fencing around cultivated fields opposite Margao railway station.

This denies the farmers access to their paddy fields.  The Agriculture Minister has however assured that he  will sit with the officials concerned and sort out the matter.

The farmers say the government is asking people to cultivate their land but here the farmers are being  blocked from carrying out their  agriculture. The fields were acquired by Goa State Urban Development Agency to rehabilitate  the displaced traders. But over the years,   no work has been started in the said land but the farmers continued to cultivate the land.
