Galgibag-Talpon bridges reduce NH distance, but locals may now travel more

Almost after 50 years, distance on national highway from Canacona to Mashem will be reduced by 15 kms. Because of Galgibag and Talpon bridges. The bypass will be opened on Friday. But this may affect the locals of two neighbouring villages – Mashem and Galgibag. They may have to now travel more. But their woes are not heard.

Urmila Lolayekar is an alert citizen of Mashem and also a former panch.

She instantly reacted on Facebook to Goa365 news of the new bypass to be opened on 29th November by Nitin Gadkari.

We met her and she came to the bridge to show the incomplete works. This is a Taar of Mashem-Galgibag. It’s shut down because bridge is coming.

This temporary footbridge built for bridge construction would also be demolished. And no steps built on both the sides of Galgibag river to climb down from 10 metres high bridge.

People may have to travel to Poinguinim to reach Mashem or Galgibag.

And this a junction is built where Mashem bridge ends. Locals fear this complicated junction on a slope and a dangerous turn may cause frequent accidents.
