Congress opposes amendment to Panchayati Raj Act

Congress has opposed the proposed bill to amend the Panchayati Raj Act. Congress said there is no mandate of the people to amend the Act and the government should not interfere in the panchayat powers.

The government is going to introduce a bill in the coming session of the Legislative Assembly on the 27th of July  to amend the Panchayati Raj Act. The amendment will allow  the local MLA to participate in gram sabha discussions.  GPCC General Secretary Agnelo Fernandes said an amendment  is required when the Act falls short of purpose.
