Tawadkar acquitted of all charges in assault case

BJP leader and former minister Ramesh Tawadkar was acquitted of all charges in the assault case on Tuesday. The former minister had been earlier held guilty of Section 352 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the court asked him to pay a fine of Rs 500 and directed him to pay Rs 5,000 under Section 506(ii) (criminal intimidation).



The Judicial magistrate first class, Canacona had earlier sentenced Tawadkar in an assault case filed against him in 2017.

The court had also directed Tawadkar to pay compensation of Rs 10,000 to victim Puno Velip. The complainant alleged that the accused had threatened to kill him in 2017 when he and his friend were proceeding to Chaudi on a two-wheeler.
