Land dispute between MMC & HPCL

The Mormugao Municipal Council has raised strong concerns over Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited barring the municipal body from its ownership of prime land.
MMC has alleged that HPCL which has been operating on municipal land leased since 1954 hasn’t renewed their lease, hence it’s operating illegally.
Infact, despite regular reminders, the oil company has failed to pay the rent to MMC with an increase of 10% every year.
