'Fish Market' fight within the coalition?

21 Jul 2018 07:52 PM

It all started with a public squabble between Minister Francis D Souza and Deputy Speaker Micheal Lobo, they were reprimanded by the Chief Minister. Next was Govind Gaude’s open allegation of corruption against Sudin on commissions over road building.

And latest - the fish market fight between Government’s two top ministers. TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai & Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.

The controversy can be linked with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane’s statement quoted by a section of media.

Rane was quoted defending FDA, where he had said that the department was deliberately been targeted by people with vested interest, making money through fish imports.

To this, Minister Vijai Sardesai challenged Rane to expose ‘vested interest’ and take action against real culprits.

A lot has been discussed over the proximity between President of All Goa wholesale fish market association Maulana Ibrahim and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai. Vijai says there is a deliberate attempt to establish the link for political interest of others.

So he suggests shifting the wholesale market out of Fatorda to an alternate location in Salcete.

The issue of formalin has been rocking the assembly session. First, two days were washed out without any business.

Chief Minister though banned the imports of fish in the state but has been tightlipped on the entire controversy.

But on Monday, he will address the house on behalf of all the departments, Health Ministry, Fisheries and Home for execution of the ban.

But ahead of most-awaited CM’s reply, such statements only expose the infighting. While Parrikar has been seen trying to bring in the decorum, one can only judge based on the public statements.
