Airport expansion, cargo service & new taxi counters, Prabhu’s big announcements

Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday discussed the progress on the proposed expansion of the existing facilities at Dabolim airport which includes an extension of the terminal building and parking bays at the cost of Rs 256 crores.



Also, the Minister has made some big promises in terms of tourism and getting Goa on Global market. 

Prabhu was in Goa on Monday during which he interacted with ministers from cabinet advisory committee and also met Airport Authority of India officials.


The Minister said that the airport is being renovated, modernized to ensure that this airport will remain functional at all times to come.


Addressing the issues of the taxi drivers, the minister announced new taxi counters by the government that will benefit local taxi drivers too.


In addition to serving passengers, Prabhu said that the airports very soon will also serve the growing need for cargo movement both ways into and outside Goa.


The minister also said that he has held a meeting with international airlines to market Goa as a tourist destination abroad.


Aiming that Goa would soon be a national capital for startups, the Minister announced this year state will host the Global Venture Capitalists in the month of June to discuss the nurturing of start-up ecosystems in the state.
