Former chairperson of Margao Municipal Council Savio Coutinho says when the tender was to treat garbage it was specified that mixed garbage will be handed over.

Savio was the chairperson when the agreement was tendered. He says that Fomento knew this, but now it is taking advantage of the new regulations that only segregated garbage should be handed over to the plant.

Acting chairperson of the municipality too concurred with Savio.

According to former chairperson Savio Coutinho, when Margao Municipality signed an agreement with Fomento to treat the garbage from Margao there was tacit understanding that the plant will receive all sorts of garbage.

But the new regulations that came into force in 2016 that only segregated waste should be given to the treatment plant.

Margao Municipality has begun taking away the rejected garbage from the treatment plant at Sonsoddo. Meanwhile, Additional Collector Prasanna Acharya said that the Margao garbage issue will be sorted out within two days.
