Electricity subsidies, tree plantation at Mopa - some cabinet decisions taken today

Cabinet today approved the proposal to grant subsidy in the electricity bill to almost all categories of consumers. This was done to ensure that there was no hike in electricity tariff, the chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant said . State will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 120 crore due to this.



The cabinet met today. It also approved the allotment of the work of  Mega International Convention Center project at Dona Paula to the highest bidding firm DCS-Vascon from among 2 shortlisted firms.

The first phase of the project will be executed in PPP mode. It is estimated to be Rs 800 crore, Sawant said, adding that the foundation stone will be laid within 2 months.

 The government appointed the Institute of Wood Science and Technology to monitor the planting of 5 lakh trees around the Mopa Airport area. Sawant said that the trees will be planted in lieu of the trees that have been cut for the Airport Project.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the transfer of 14,661 sq mtr land from other departments such as WRD to PWD for construction of Mopa Express Highway.

The tendering process for the Rs 12.5 crore Paikul bridge will be completed with 1.5 months. The bridge will be constructed by GSIDC, the Chief minister said. The bridge had got washed away in the floods that hit the state in July.
