Budget hikes petrol-diesel, IT relief on electric vehicles & housing

India’s first woman finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her maiden budget on Thursday.



It came with a hike in petrol and diesel prices, no changes in the slab of middle class for income tax relief and surcharge for the super-rich. But it also provides sops for start-ups as well as for buying houses and electric vehicles.


The middle class normally waits for relief in income tax slabs when the union budget is announced. But this time, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman preferred to announce relief for those who buy houses or electric vehicles as well as on start-ups. The budget came with a hike in petrol and diesel, which may have a multiplying effect.


The customs duty is raised by one rupee on fuel as well as gold and precious items. Tiles, cashew kernels, auto parts, digital and video recorders as well as CCTV camera would also be costlier. But there is good news for NRIs.


They would get Adhar card simply by presenting their passports at the arrival. And henceforth, PAN card is not a must. Your Adhaar card would be linked to it.
