Only GMC will transplant organs, cancer OPD from Wed: Vishwajeet

Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane said Goa Medical College will be the only institution to transplant organs from now on.



The GMC has also decided to set up its own department of oncology for cancer patients. Meanwhile, it starting OPD for cancer patients in the GMC, in association with KLE’s hospital in Belgaum it will start from Wednesday.

He also inaugurated a unit to treat patients with burns of up to 70 percent. 

Health minister Vishwajeet Rane touched upon the recent controversy about organ harvesting in the state and said that GMC will remain the only organ transplant centre in the state.


Vishwajit also said that GMC is in the process of setting up an oncology department in association with KLES hospital in Belgaum for advanced treatment of cancer.


Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane said that till date GMC was treating patients with only 30 percent burn injuries but the new unit will treat patients with up to 70 percent burn injuries.
