MonkeyPox has begun to spread its grip globally now as the WHO has sounded its highest public health emergency alarm over the disease. So far India has reported 4 cases of the disease. What is alarming about the virus is the death rate which stands at 1%. Goa meanwhile has not reported any case of the infection.



The WHO recently declared monkeypox a global disease as cases crossed the 16,000 mark globally. Poonam Khetarpal Singh, regional health director for Southeast Asia, says it is spreading even in countries where it has never been seen before which has become a huge cause of concern.

-India has so far reported four cases of monkeypox

– Three cases from Kerala, one in Delhi.

-Over 16,000 cases of monkeypox from 75 countries

-Five deaths reported so far, all of which from Africa

-The infection lasts between 6-13 days but can range from 5-21 days

-Typically causes mild symptoms including fever, aches, and pus-filled skin lesions.

-Recovery within two to four weeks

-Monkeypox spreads primarily via intimate skin-to-skin contact, usually with someone who has an active rash

-The risk of monkeypox is moderate globally, except in the Europe

-Health officials ask that people should avoid close personal contact anyone displaying symptoms.

-Monkeypox vaccines are being offered to high-risk individuals
