Margao PI rescues rare barn owl

17 Jan 2019 07:33 PM

In a kind gesture towards animals, Margao PI Kapil Nayak rescued a rare barn owl.

The owl was landed in distress in Margao police station.

Nayak later handed it over to Netravali wildlife sanctuary

International Union for Conservation of Nature has given least concern conservation status to the barn owl bird.

But in India the ratio of these owls are decreasing. The blatant deforestation has threatened their existence.

They are being poached to sell them as pet. They are also being used to perform black magic.

Hunting and trade of owl species is banned under wildlife protection act 1972 of India.

Forest Officer Julio Qudros told to contact forest department if someone is found in illegal possession of these owls.
