GBA files PIL against 16b

The Goa Bachao Andolan and Goa Foundation have filed a Public Interest litigation in the Bench of Bombay High Court on 2nd November against 16b.

The prime objection is to the retrograde TCP amendment 16b. Even as this amendment goes against the principles of natural justice, the GBA further points out its redundancy even as clear processes for making of a Regional Plan exist.

GBA has demanded that the government should stop the land conversion at once and alert the public to the basic weakness in this amendment.

GBA has advised potential applicants against using 16b for land use change and avoid risk.

An Ordinance under former TCP minister Babush Monserrate attempted to revive this misguided principle, even as the Regional Plan 2011 was in the process of being completed, said GBA.

It lapsed due to massive public pressure and was not revived till now, under the current TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai, as Amendment 16b to the TCP Act, stated GBA.
