Elections to municipalities postponed by 3 months

State Election Commission has postponed the general elections to 11 municipalities by 3 months. These were scheduled to be held in 18 October. The decision to fix next date for election will be taken after assessing the situation as also the ZP election, the commission said on Monday.



State Election Commissioner R K Srivastava said that the deputy collector and mamletdar cannot be appointed as RO and ARO to prepare voter list as they are busy in administrative work dealing with the covid pandemic and safety of people was paramount.

On 7th January the government had given the go ahead for elections and had also notified the dilimitation of wards. The tenure of the councils is expiring on  4th November. Election commission has also shown willingness to hold municipal and ZP election together if situation improves.
