It was a unique funeral. From Church to the Hindu crematorium. Dr Wilfred Mesquita set an example for all of us. His final rites will remain in the history of Goa as well as mankind.

After holy mass in the Church, this 70-year old doctor-turned politician was cremated in Hindu crematorium in Vasco on Wednesday.

As per his last wish, Dr Mesquita was first taken to the Church for the mass where all the rituals were conducted as per Christian religion.

The mass was attended by people of Vasco as well as politicians from all the parties, including Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant. He was then carried in a coffin to the Hindu crematorium, where the Church priest made prayers.

After that, he was laid on the pyre and the family members spread ghee and then placed wood pieces and incense sticks. Dr Mesquita’s son and two daughter lighted the pyre. His colleagues in politics paid tributes to him while speaking to Goa365.
