Mining has been stopped by the Apex court on allegations of illegal mining in the state as per the Justice MB Shah report that was presented in Parliament.

The union Minister Shripad Naik on Friday has categorically stated that the state and central governments have no responsibility in the current mining ghotalo.

And because of this, the BJP's Lok Sabha prospects would not be affected. He said that the people to blame were those who had gone to court on the illegal mining issue. Here's the story

The court had issued strictures at that time. More recently the renewal of leases of 88 mines was also struck down by the SC which castigated the state and even the Centre for not following the rules.

Shripad also spoke about what he called the land dispute viz a viz leases. The state is the only one that has has lease holders that are concessionaire, a legacy of the colonial Portuguese rule of the state.

The union minister also said that the government was trying its best to sort out the issue.
