Mining workers take back bandh call; to hold a hunger strike instead on 5 Oct

Mining stakeholders have cancelled their bandh scheduled on 3 Oct on assurances from State government and MPs.




Mining stakeholders have cancelled their bandh scheduled on 3 Oct on assurances from State government and MPs.

But mining they will have a protest. Around 2000 people will stage a one day hunger strike at Azad Maidan on the 5 of October.

And they will also protest outside parliament when session starts is on.

Goa Mining People Front have demanded that Parliament should amendment the MMDR act mining can start in Goa immediately.

The Forum is not in favor of an ordinance but amendment. Puti Gaokar of the mining front spoke to Goa 365 on the issue.  

Meanwhile, Congress Seva Dal had extended their support to one day hunger strike held by mining dependents at Azad Maidan.

Congress Seva Dal joint secretary Rakesh Shetty critcised the government for ignoring the issues of mining dependents and renewing the licenses of 6 casinos.

He gave the government ultimatum of 1 month to restart mining.
