Drunken youth attack police in Cuncolim, Khandepar bridge another hotspot

Even policemen patrolling at night are not safe in our so called peaceful Goa. On Tuesday early morning, the patrolling police team was attacked by a group of nine drunken youth on Cuncolim road. 3 injured policemen were hospitalized. Police could arrest two assailants. Others are still absconding. CM Dr Pramod Sawant has taken serious note of this incident. And on the other hand, Khandepar bridge is becoming another hotspot for overnight liquor parties.



The incident occurred at around 4 ‘o clock on Tuesday when a patrolling vehicle of police found 9 youngsters on a drunken state on the road near old police station. When confronted, they started arguing with the policemen. Two more police vehicles rushed to the spot. By then, the drunkuards started hitting the policemen. Even the police vehicles were damaged.  

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant later in the day confirmed that police have arrest two youth and remaining seven will not be spared. The two arrested are identified as Mayur Dessai and Shaikh Abdul Razak, while the absconding are Sandeep Dessai, Santosh Naik, Shubham Borkar, Sailesh Dessai and Swapnesh Dessai. But the picture will be clear on Wednesday.

Tourism Minister Babu Azgaonkar said people drinking in public would be fined. He was also backed by minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, watch their stand. 

In the meanwhile, new Khandepar Bridge has become another hot spot for overnight liquor parties. Even after it was inaugurated one year ago, part of the bridge towards approach road is still closed due to safety reasons. But this has created another issue of safety as miscreants has been using it for whole-night liquor parties.
