Sonsoddo garbage dump catches fire once again

The Sonsoddo garbage dump caught fire once again on Thursday. Two fire tenders are fighting to contain the blaze as black smoke is spreading into areas surrounding the dump. The fire too is spreading courtesy the winds. Schools close by like Manovikas and residents staying close by have been affected.



According to officials, the  rod of a a worker who was surveying the dump touched a high tension wire. This led to sparks falling on the dump, starting the fire and the worker being taken to hospital. The  garbage dump had caught fire last time in May. The pollution control board had even issued a show cause notice to the Margao Municipal Council on the issue at that time. Th efire had raged on for many days before it was finally brought under control.
