GMC hospital treats a rare of the rarest case – pregnancy in liver

Doctors at Goa Medical College and Hospital recently treated a rare of the rarest case. It was ectopic pregnancy, a pregnancy occurring outside the uterus. The foetus was attached to the liver. The pregnancy was terminated successfully and the patient was discharged.



 GMC Dr S M Bandekar said that a 25 -year -old mother of two from Valpoi approached the Casualty of Goa Medical College with severe pain in right upper abdomen and vomiting. The foetus was two and half months old.

Primary hepatic pregnancies are usually associated with poor maternal outcomes. According to GMC hospital, over the last 60 years only about 40 such rarest of rare cases have been reported. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the GMC hospital treated this case in this month.
