Pt. Tulshidas Borkar no more

Pandit Tulshidas Borkar, a nationally renowned Harmonium player from Goa, expired on Saturday. He was 84 year old.



Pandit Borkar expired at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday at around 10.30 in the morning and was cremated at Goregao in the evening. He has a flat in Bandoda.

Born in Borim village of Ponda taluka, Pandit Borkar was honoured with Padmashree in 2016 by Government of India.

Pt Borkar was known for playing solo harmonium and his styles of playing included Hindustani rag sangeet and other forms.

Yoganand Borkar and Sunil Sawkar from his Borim village paid tributes to Pt Borkar.

 Pt Borkar accompanied India’s top classical singers like Chotta Gandharv and Bhimsen Joshi on harmonium. In Goa, he was close to and Dilip Dharwakar and acted in Mumbai with Goa’s Padmashree Prasad Sawakar.


He was also playing Violin and Organ. Besides Padmashree, he was a recipient of many awards and felicitations including topmost award of Sangeet Natak Academy.


He has performed in India as well as abroad at music festivals with his solo harmonium performances.
