Father, son killed in road mishap at Siolim, irate local set ablaze MH car

It was a horrifying morning for the Siolkars. A family who was going to attend the feast mass of St. Anthony in Siolim lost their lives.



In a family of three, a father and son lost their live while the mother was grievously injured in a bizarre road accident that took place at Siolim-Chopdem bridge on Sunday early morning. The family was traveling towards siolim church from Morjim for mass and their car was hit by an oncoming car from Maharashtra. The incident sparked tension and mob of locals torched the Maharashtra car. The Police have arrested accused car driver from Mumbai.


The family of three were traveling to siolim Church to attend the St. Anthony's church feast. They were the residents of Deulwadda at Morjim. In this accident, the Goan family car was driven by 25-year-old Jonas Fernandes, who was accompanied by his 62-year-old father Joao Fernandes and mother Milagrin Fernandes. When their car reached at Siolim bridge, a Maharashtra registration car going towards Pernem side from Morjim came on the wrong side and hit the car of Jonas. Three family members were grievously injured and were shifted to District Hospital in Mapusa.


Jonas and Joao were declared dead on arrival, while Milagrin is undergoing medical treatment in GMC. But this did not there, soon after the incident locals gathered at the site and set fire to Maharashtra car.


Local alleged that tourists were drunk and were speeding their car recklessly. The heavy police force present was helpless. Fire brigade rushed to site but the car was completely turned to ash before they could douse the fire.
