Tourism department has now issued a revised shack policy. As an outcome of court cases before the high court as well as the National Green Tribunal. It has identified 346 shacks, but they would get licenses only after the court verdicts.

NGT had stayed implementation of the Goa shack policy as the State had failed to submit its coastal zone management plan.

The shack owners had moved the High Court seeking to vacate the NGTs stay on the the government shack policy.

The High Court allowed the State to start the procedure for allocation of shacks. But asked it to refrain from finalising allocation till final orders. Next hearing is on 7th October.

The highlights of the revised shack policy are nothing different from the earlier ones.

238 shacks on different beaches of North Goa and 108 shacks on the South Goa beaches. But there is a provison added.

One, licenses would be granted only after joint inspection by tourism department and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.

And two, only after the orders by the high court as well as the National Green Tribunal.
