Babu refutes US tour criticism

Tourism Minister Babu Azgaonkar on  Friday refuted allegations  made by the Congress Party on the recently held road shows in the United States saying that participation at international Trade Fairs and organizing of international roadshows is important for the promotion of Goa Tourism internationally.



Babu however admitted that some of his family members accompanied him but said that this was at their own expense.


The tourism minister however said that the US has not contributed too many tourists to Goa over the last few years.


The tour had garnered a lot of controversy and criticism recently.


The touring party included Chairman GTDC Nilesh Cabral, Principal  Secretary Tourism Dharmendra Sharma, and Rajesh Kale who was the Deputy Director of Tourism.

1. Target is to bring in more US tourist’s to Goa.

2. Babu’s family member accompanied him, but at own cost.

3. Others were Nilesh Cabral, Dharmendra Sharma, and Rajesh Kale.


Meanwhile Babu also said that with the shack season closure the government has directed operators to dismantle and dispose all material without causing any damage to the environment.

All shack structure had to be  dismantled  by 31st May and a report to be submitted by 10th June on the same,  the shack allottees will also have to submit  a report  to the Dept. of Tourism on the manner in which the material has been disposed of by 20th June.
