What would be the fate of tourism industry in the State? Businessmen dependent on tourism say there is a sharp decline in foreign tourist arrivals in the State, especially after Thomas Cook shut down. Domestic tourists are now the only hope for tourism stakeholders in Goa. Even though Goan beaches are crowded but these tourists are not good spenders. Some fear bleak year ahead while others hope for a revival .

The graph of tourism industry is showing a downward trend as compared to the previous year.

Demonetisation, GST, inflation, illegal activities, increasing crimes such as rapes and harassment of tourists by police are the reasons cited by hoteliers and taxi owners.

They say there is a decline in arrival of tourists from Russia as that country itself goes through economic crisis.

While there is sharp decline in European tourists due to shutting down of Thomas Cook, those willing to come to Goa cannot afford the amount charged by other charter.

In North Goa, Calangute beach is usually crowded with tourists while Morjim and Ashvem beaches were deserted.

Most of the tourists coming to these beaches were Russian.

Most tourists prefer to visit North rather than South.

Businessmen say tourists do not visit South Goa beaches because of the harassment by migrants and lack of security by the authorities on the beaches.
