Indian Olympic Association wants to hold National Games by September. However, the Goa government has asked five more months time to hold these games, Sports Minister Govind Gaude said.

He said that this time was necessary that it will take time to revive the infrastructure as the schedule is tightly packed due to FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be held in Goa later this month.

The National Games supposed to be held in Goa have been postponed many times. Sports Minister Govind Gaude said the Olympic Association of India has asked government whether it would be convenient to hold the games on 6-16 September. But the government has replied back that it will be ready to hold it by December-November. Gaude said that the reply has not come yet.

All football grounds will be ready in Goa by 15 August to host under 17 FIFA Women World Cup. This is the also reason why we have asked to hold the national games in November-December. But December is more convenient for us, Gaude said.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister informed that the India has got opportunity to host 44th Fide Chess Olympiad 2022 at Chennai for first time since it beginning after 59 years. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lit torch relay for the game at New Delhi on 19th June and the torch will reach in Goa on 3rd July, Gaude said.
