Use of plastics needs to be rethought: DMA director

It is time to avoid items of plastics in every day use.



These concepts of fashion, convenience and hygiene needs to go for re-think if the problem of non bio-degradable plastic is to be addressed.

She addressed the World Environment Day function in Panaji. 

World Environment day was celebrated at Sanskruti Bhavan on Tuesday.

The function was organised by Goa State Pollution Control Board in association with Goa State Council for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.

The theme for World Environment Day was: Beat plastic pollution.

Present at the function were Chairman of Goa State Pollution Control Board Ganesh Shetgaokar, Director of Municipal Administration R Menaka, Secretary of Environment Daulat Hawaldar and  Member secretary of Goa State Pollution Control Board, Levinson Martins.

World Environment Day was also celebrated all over the state.

The Directorate of Panchayats in association with Chicalim Panchayat celebrated  World Environment day in Chicalim.

Minister of Panchayats Mauvin Godinho, Director of Panchayats Ajit Panchwadkar and others were present.

A rally was held and trees were planted to mark the day.

The students were given paper bags for use.

Navelim biodiversity committee organized  the World Environment Day where the students were sensitized about the preservation of the environment.

The committee also conducted a photo competition for the students.
