There is mixed news for Goa in use of tobacco. Overall tobacco use prevalence has increased among adults in Goa from 8.8% in 2009-10 to 9.7% in 2016-17.

A number of smokers have however fallen down but non-smoking tobacco use has gone up.

This was revealed by the state Fact Sheet of Goa State-level consultation which is part of Global Adult Tobacco Survey.

Global Adult Tobacco Survey is a global standard for systematically monitoring adult tobacco use.

Smoking has decreased among Goans from 4.8 percent to 4.6 percent while smokeless tobacco use increased from 4.6 percent to 6.5 percent.

A former tobacco chewer spoke about his experience while he chewed tobacco and how he suffered.
