Public hearing for proposed MPT expansion plans postponed due to rain

The activists and environmentalists tried to impress upon the Goa State Pollution Control Board that the MPT projects will not only harm the environment but they will be detrimental to the people of Vasco and surrounding areas.



People want environmentally sustainable projects that also generate employment for locals.

The hearing could not be concluded because of rain and will be continued on Saturday.

The public hearing was presided over by GSPCB official Sanjeev Joglekar and South Goa Collector Tariq Thomas  in the presence of MPT officials.

Various speakers comprising residents, social and environmental activists from Vasco and Salcette Taluka asserted that Mormugao Port Trust  has made false and misleading statements in their EIA report.

The public hearing was held at SAG ground in Chicalim.

The public hearing was over the development of fishing jetty, passenger jetty  multipurpose general cargo berths and POL.
