Pressure mounts on govt to stop coal handling

The Mormugao taluka is facing brunt of coal pollution.



And the pressure is mounting on the government and MPT authorities to stop coal handling.


Opposition party and social activists has raised their voice against coal woes.


Goa Pollution Control Board has suspended coal handling for 7 days but that's not enough.


People want permanent ban on coal. 

Port town residents have demanded that Goa Pollution Control Board should permanently ban coal handling in MPT.


They say not only Vascokar but whole Goa does not want coal.


They also lashed out at pollution control board for not inspecting coal handling site till now.


A Congress delegation led by GPCC President Girish Chodankar, CLP leader Babu Kavlekar, Congress Mahila president Pratima Coutinho and AICC Gen Secretary Chella Kumar met MPT Traffic manager Vipin Memon.


He told them port was largest public sector enterprise and they could not stop any cargo.


But assured that preventive measures would be taken.
