Many Ponda schools close down for want of students

At present Ponda taluka has 104 primary schools but their number could come down. Last year, 47 schools close down for want of students.



 Of the 104 primary schools, 20 schools have less than 10 students.


At this rate, another 4 years time these 20 schools could meet the sme fqte.


Goa 365 spoke to one minister and two legislators from Ponda taluka to elicit their views on the dwindling fortunes of the government primary schools.



An artist Sagar Mulvi has drawn a portrait of Goa's first chief minister Bahusaheb Bandodkar.


The portrait shows primary schools in the background that are in a dilapidated state.  


Sagar said he is pained to see that schools closing down as more and more students shift to private schools.
